Dear List,
I turned off bluetooth on the T61p a few weeks ago. Now I can't turn it back on. ThinkVantage indicates it is on and working, however the blue tooth symbol below the screen is not lit up, and Blue tooth icon has disappeared from the control panel. Device Manager lists both Blue tooth Bus Enumerator and Thinkpad Blue tooth EDR as working. Very puzzled, suggestions please? Regards Miksol
By the way I am running XP Prof sp3.

Perhaps a clean re-install of XP Pro would do the trick? I thought maybe just the light in the plastic indicator lights strip was burnt out for the Bluetooth indicator but since it isn't in control panel anymore this is very weird. The only indication i would think that it is a software problem is that the icon is not in the control panel anymore. Try system restore first i guess. Have you tried reinstalling the Bluetooth drivers? If not try that, they might have somehow corrupted.

When you do the Thinkvantage fn for radios (fn f5) does it list it as on? Usually if the light is off that means it isn't powered on.

Last night I got an error message saying Bluetooth EDR was stopping the T61p from going into sleep mode, so I went to device manager and disabled Bluetooth EDR. Later I shut down normally.
This morning I started up and to my surprise Bluetooth light came on along with my normal wireless radio. Went to Fn-F5, it reported them as both on, so then I turned them both on and off a couple of times and both seemed to respond properly including the lights. Device Manager is showing Bluetooth EDR disabled, (as it should) but Blue tooth Icon is still missing from Control Panel.
Turned Bluetooth off, can't turn it back on, Lenovo T61p
