I have two t61's sitting on my desk. There is such a huge difference in quality it is unbelievable. One of them has an amazing keyboard and touchpoint, the other one's touchpoint is unresponsive and keyboard mediocre at best. Also, the build seems much better for one than the other. This is quite strange, but I thought i'd put it out there.

Different keyboards are on different models, and the quality of these different keyboards is significant.

    Cheers,

    Michael

What is the code for the better keyword? I just got my first Thinkpad and I would like what model I have.

    Thanks.

What is the difference in build quality and are these the 14.1 or 15.4 models?

They could both very well be Lenovo retail ordered models, since parts change due to stock on hand, but were these both from Lenovo or a reseller? Also, are they the same model number? (On the bottom)

Even then, it probably won't be significant, since even those may have varying parts.

Is it set to be disabled?

You've been around long enough to probably know there's 3 types of keyboard makers. They have different feel and different individuals have different preferences, occasionally even strongly so.

What are the part numbers for each laptop? It would be nice to know how we can identify the difference.

the automatic detect of my proudct parts is unavailoible.
the first t61 was ordered when it first came out in canada, and arrived around 2 weeks afterwards. the 2nd t61 was ordered on the 18th, and arrived on the 20th. i am continually impressed with the level of service I am getting from IBM. it is amazing: 2 days from order date.

but yea the two keyboards have such a different quality it is amazing. the keyboard really makes the whole system, though, as if you have a good keyboard, everything else seems better and you want to work harder. my hands are just gliding off this keyboard now.

If you ordered either one online, then you should be able to go to your order confirmation email and find the specs of your configured system.

    Thanks.

It doesn't really help us that you say there's a difference. Don't you have any info on either the distinguishes them? Maybe one is made from compal and the other not? Or one has the alps and the other has NMB? Anything? Otherwise it's just.. oh that's nice... whatever.

You can do a parts lookup with the serial number and model number via the parts lookup page that is in the sticky on this forum.
