I am really angry and disappointed with IBM. Today I have received my fourth Thinkpad 2379 DXU (15 inch screen). All of them had stuck pixels or dust behind the screen (on one of them). After returning all three, I received the fourth one today. Guess what! I have two stuck red pixels. One is right in the middle of the screen!!!!!!!!!! I wonder how many of you really do not have any stuck/dead pixels on their screens. Could it be that most of you do have them but you don't care or you haven't realized???
I wonder what the likelihood of getting four T42's with stuck pixels in a row is. I am really sick and tired of unpacking and packing the computers and sending them back. I think I had it!!!!!!!!!!!

I have other computers by Toshiba and Apple and they are flawless in terms of screen issues.

Should I just learn to accept this IBM screen flaw???

    Thank you.

    Jordi

Of the half-dozen or so T-42 Flexviews I've had the opportunity to examine, every one had at least two dead or stuck pixels.

This falls within IBM's bad pixel policy, but while many manufacturers have policies that deem a certain number of dead pixels acceptable, but I've never seen a line that so consistantly had them as the Flexview.

My guess is that vast majority of IBMs go to businesses, and people getting a computer free from work don't complain about a dead pixel or two like someone investing a big chunk of their own money into a machine, so it's not a big deal to IBM.

    Hi jordi32,
My T42 LCD is perfect and I have two friends who recently bought the same 2378DXU as I have and theirs have no bad pixels either. The only difference between the 2378 & 2379DXU is that the 2378 only has the 1 year warranty, so yes you have had some very bad luck. I do believe that if you buy from Bill over at www.thinkpads.com, he will pre-screen them before sending it to you. I would guess that the place your buying from got a bad batch. I would not accept it, to do so would be a message to manufacturers that it is ok to ship defective product.

    Bootleg2go,

Thank you for your post. I got the four T42 2379DXU from IBM direct. Every time I did an exchange, it took about 3-4 weeks to get the replacement. I am not sure I want to go through the same ordeal again. Apparently this model is always backordered. Where did you buy yours from? How many times can I ask for an exchange at IBM direct?
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Jordi

    Tmcnellie,

I don't understand. They sent you a new computer before sending yours back to them???? How can that be?

Thank you for clearing this up for me.

    Best regards,
    Jordi

    Hi jordi,
I bought my 1st thinkpad from www.newegg.com and the latest T42 (2378DXU) from www.mwave.com. Both of these places have very good prices, but they won't do exchanges for bad pixels unless there is a large number of them. When you call IBM, ask nicely to speak with a supervisor about this being the 4th notebook sent to you. I personally would tell them to get one out to you overnighted for one last shot at getting it right, or just cancel and get your money back and go over to www.thinkpads.com and talk to Bill about getting one from him without any defective pixels, I'm sure he will make it right for you the 1st time.

    Dear Bootleg2go,
Thank you for your post. Even if I ask them to overnight a new computer to me they can't do it because this model is always backordered. If I order from Bill, it won't be much better since he will probably take as much as time as me to get the computer from IBM and if it's defective he will have to return it and reorder (like me). I don't see how it would be faster with him. Can you clarify this please?
    Thank you, Bootleg2go.
    Best regards,
    Jordi

    Bootleg2go,

I was wondering if you thought it would be better to order a
T42p 2373KXU from Bill, which has a UXGA screen, since apparently he has them in stock. Have you ever seen a Thinkpad with this resolution?

Are fonts too small? Is the screen quality much better than SXGA?

    Thank you, Bootleg2go.
    Best regards,
    Jordi

    Tmcnellie,

I feel the same way about IBM. I love what could be a full functional Thinkpad but so far I have had four lemons. What were the issues you had with your Thinkpads? What model were they?

    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Jordi

    Hi Jordi,
I think I can help you out and get IBM to make things right with you. I have a neighbor who works for IBM. He's a mid to upper level director in the mainframe part of the business and is very well connected throughout company. He stopped by today as I was doing yard work to ask questions about a problem he's having with his PC. Anyhow I told him of the problems your having trying to get a T42 that's not defective in some way and that your on your 4th one. He told me he could help get you all fixed up and that there's a good possibility that there could be some compensation for all the trouble that IBM has put you through. He said that there was no promises, but that IBM has been known to even comp their customer the cost of the notebook when customers have been put through the wringer like you have been. He asked me to tell you that 4 returns on a new thinkpad is completely unacceptable and uncommon as they have a very low return/failure rate on all their thinkpad products and that it's probably an LCD vendor issue, but they are ultimately responsible since they did not catch this repeating problem. He asked that you send me a scan all the paper work(invoices, receipts, RMA's and such) and copies of all the email messages along with names of person you talked with at IBM. He suggested that for security you blackout any creditcard information; as soon as you get this to me, I'll give it to him and he in turn will see that the right people at IBM get it and that in the end IBM will make you more than satisfied.

    My Email is [email protected]

    Go here: https://www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/email-sjp.pl
It is to send an email to the CEO Sam Palmisano
He personally reads all the employees mail and customers mail definatley gets responded to.
This will get an email to the appropriate people at IBM.
Explain the situation in the email.
I had a problem with the EZ Serv depot not being able to repair my T40 correctly and I was offered the machine of my choice. You will get a response in less than 48Hrs.

I feel for you. Four years ago I received my Dell Inspiron and noticed one dead pixel. I called customer support and they told me that up to six on the screen was considered industry standard. They told me I could return it but there was no guarantee that the next one would come with a clear screen. So I kept it and got used to it. I ordered an IBM 2379DXU in July from Techonweb and held my breath. It came with a clear screen. Paying that much money one expects a screen with no dead pixels. I would have IBM test it before sending it to you. If that's possible.
