Hi, this is my first post, my name is Intel-4004. I need some help choosing laptop for college...

I went to their website and saw the price for a U310 and the U400 is the same.
    U310's spec:
    2nd generation Intel Core i3-2367M Processor( 1.40GHz 1333MHz 3MB)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    4.0GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz
13.3" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
    Multi-finger one-piece TouchPad without buttons
    500GB 5400 rpm
    3 Cell Li-Polymer
    Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200BGN
    One Year
    Notebook
    Integrated 1.0MP Camera
    HDMI (Out)

    U400's spec:
    2nd generation Intel Core i5-2450M Processor( 2.50GHz 1333MHz 3MB)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
    AMD Radeon HD 6470M 1GB
    6.0GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz
14.0" HD Glossy with integrated camera 1366x768
Industry Standard Multi-touch 2 button touchpad
    500GB 5400 rpm
    DVD Recordable
    4 Cell Li-Polymer
    Intel 1030 BGN+BT Wireless
    No Fingerprint Reader
    One year
    Notebook
    Integrated 1.3MP Camera
    HDMI (Out)

They both has something that I like.
    the U400:
    - Larger screen
    - have dvd/cd drive (have no idea, but feel better having it)
    - it has Core i5(good) and Radeon HD 6470M (can play games :D)
    what I don't like
    - seems thick and heavy to carry around...
    - I heard people say its battery is not very good
    - Amazon reviews

    the U310:
    - light and thin
    - longer battery life than the U400?
    what I don't like
    - maybe too small?
    - HD 3000...(how much games I can play on it?)

So which one should I get?

Not too much if you'd like to set something higer then min details (or even play at all). ;) And that would be bigger disadvantage in this model.
I wouldn't call it thick but rather more classic. :D

I'd like to buy something 13-14" for my self and if i had to choose from those two I would get U400 because of graphic card.

Try to find something with HD4000 which is much better card. And maybe with nVidia Optimus technology if with dedicated card because this will get more hours from battery.
(I can't help you now because it's almost 1:30AM here and I have to get to work in few hours ;))

Hm...I tried to find something but all I get was only few notebooks with your criteria and one of them was U400 ;). The others are:
Samsung Series5 - I would prefer this one because of matte display, good graphic card and it's a little thinner.

    Packard Bell EasyNote NX69HR
    Sony VAIO SVE14A1V1E
sorry for language but I don't have time to look on english websites

...ok...oh! I found this yesterday. The Thinkpad Edge E430
    spec:
Intel Core i5-3210M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    14.0" W HD (1366 x 768 ) LED VibrantView, Midnight Black
Intel HD Graphics (WWAN or mSATA capable)
    4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
    Keyboard - US English
    UltraNav with FingerPrint Reader
    720p HD Camera
    320GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    DVD Recordable
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery 48WH - 75+
    65W AC Adapter - US (2pin)
    Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (2x2 BGN & BT4)

It doesn't clearly state the graphic processor is HD 4000...I didn't look into it since it seems too thick...do you think this will get me through college without dropping too much performances?

I'm not sure why,but there is not much video reviews about the Edge series...
