Anyone know when this'll be released? I'm looking to buy one as it has the best video card available on the centrino 2 platform so far. I saw date of August 16th in Singapore on some random sites, but I've yet to see it available online.

Is there a thinkpad equivilant available?

The Thinkpad X200 and X300 are 12" and 13" laptops.

What kind of pricing is the U330 supposed to have?

It's not appeared on HK's site yet, normally they're one of the first to get it in Asia.

    http://www-07.ibm.com/lenovoinfo/hk/ideaPad/uSeries/

The X200 and X300 don't have switchable graphic, HDMI port, and other multimedia features.

It is out on the China site, around 14K HKD for the top model. I'm current looking at this laptop because it has one of the top specs in terms of gaming in a 13" laptop.

DDR3 RAM as well as a ATI 3450 /w 256MB, seems like a winner to me. I'm not a heavy gamer, I just want something to play Warhammer Online on. I will need to carry two laptops (the other being my company X61s), so can't buy a bigger gaming notebook.

When it hits the US, it won't be the same price, in Asia the price is always higher. 14K HKD is about the same price as a T61 in HK, the T61 in HK is in that price range too.

That seems like a pretty nice price. I was expecting something much higher.

Is there a tech spec up on Lenovo's site? I noticed the S series is also showing under the Ideapad section, but no models are up yet.

    The new S Series (S9 & S10) is IdeaPad.

This is the only spec I can find, but not in English:

how long till they pop out with the better speced ones?
im going to hawaii tomorrow and debating whether to order it or not :p

im hesitant to think that better specced or customizable ones will be plopped based on the u110. that being said... it is a 13 incher so there's more wiggle room.

By the way, I checked the China site, that's 14K RMB, not HKD, 14K RMB is close to 16K HKD.

It's very new on the site, but I'm pretty sure they will offer better specs. The ones on China's site are also WXGA and not WXGA+ though. I was hoping to see WXGA+ as standard. :(

USPIDEAPAD15 coupon for 15 percent off the ideapad series.

    haha this is so tempting.

do you think they will up the frequency on the processor at all?

My goodness, this is indeed very tempting. Was able to get the price of the U330-22672AU down to a final price of $1315. Includes 2 day shipping and 3 year accidental damage.

I never heard of the WXGA+ spec. Does anyone have a link stating this?

Also wished there was a P9500 CPU in there. I'd happily pay extra for that.

It's hard to say, seeing the history of IdeaPads, normally Lenovo will add/upgrade the CPU only every few months. Also, different countries get different specs, but this is common for almost every brand.

The top of the line model in China uses the P8400(2.26GHz) CPU, so I assume the states will be getting that shortly.

I'm so tempted to buy it off the US site, but not sure if they'll ship to Singapore. I'm so impatient but as long as I can get this machine before Sept 7th, I'm all good.

This is interesting... I went to Lenovo US site to price out a U330 and they would not allow me to customize it. Here's what comes with it:

    Lenovo IdeaPad U330 - 22672AU
    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7350 ( 2GHz 1GHz 3MB )
    GenuineWindows Vista Home Premium
13.3 WXGA LED Backlight TFT 1280x800
    ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB
    3 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
    320GB 5400
    DVD Recordable w/ X6 Ultrabase (Dual Layer) 24X Max5
    Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100
    6 Cell Lithium-Ion
One year parts and labor (system battery: one year)

With the above mentioned coupon, it comes to $1,061 USD. My only question are: Is that a montevina chipset and why can't it be customized?

If it start with a P, is the latest Intel processors. And Lenovo usually makes that "half customizable" ideapads. I mean, when they release an Ideapad, you can choose between some preconfig models, and you can only customize the warranty, accesories.

They made that with Y series.

By the way, the Y series were updated, new Y530, and Y730.

    Ah that's fine. I don't know of any other WXGA+ 13.3" notebooks.

A stronger CPU in the U330 will definitely push me to make the purchase. My hunch is that they're doing this promotion up to Aug 25 (IIRC) so they can launch the higher spec configurations without any special promotions. :(

It would also be nice if the Radeon HD 3470 was in there instead of the 3450. Two other similar 13.3" models are the Asus F6V-A1 and the Sony Vaio SR, both of which feature the 3470. I think the performance gain should be minimum though (on similar spec'd machines HD3470 got 2000 3dmark06 whereas HD3450 got 1823).

PXXXX is montevina. P7350 is montevina indeed. There was a problem when some laptopmakers used this processor because it wasn't on the Intel Website. But is Montevina, the 1066MHz FSB alone speaks for itself.

Edit> Takashi, i don't ehink they will make it customizable for some time, at least. I think the y510 or y730 is not "customize it" able yet, they only offer you looots of preconifg options.

Are the models currently listed on the U330 site dedicated graphics only? I see no mention of the X4500 and a hot switch feature like the models on the Chinese site.

Good point. I did find this comparison list: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...CE742179B81FE831165E337&tab=3#tab-container-5

And it says all U330 models have both discrete and dedicated, which would probably imply that it does have the switch. I'm not sure though.

7% off all idea pads on CPP site. Brings down price of U330 to $908 / $987 for the two pre-config'd models.

    Sweet! Thanks!

Now it makes my decision even tougher since the price is exactly the same (vs. $100 more for the U330 previously) between my spec'd out T400 with hi res screen vs. the lighter/thinner u330 with low res screen.

I am in a similar boat with the two of you... I am debating between the U330 and the two Sony 13.3" offerings (SR and Z).

The price is a big factor now, but the U330 is so new there are no reviews of it yet... I'd hate to buy something with such little info on it. I also hate the fact that I can't see it in person prior to purchase.

There were views of u330 from chinese site. The 6-cell battery wont stick out as T400/t500, weight include battery is 1.889kg, keyboard feels like thinkpad quiet and comfort, quality is very nice compare to XpS 1330.
cons: lack of ports, glossy screen is hard to use outside

I'm looking at the U330 and it uses an Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100. Will this be compatible with all wireless? Also, any word on when the price is going back up and when the deals are over? Do I need to rearrange my finances to get it today or can it wait until later this week?

Edit: I need a computer that is 802.11 b/g compatible

that's a tough one... i would think that they base it on usage and time. once they hit a certain limit, they probably get rid of the deal. translation - it could happen at any time. so all of us are collectively SOL.
