I think I have heard it somewhere it has switchable graphic although the Lenovo website does not seem to mention it.....anyone know?

And you can also read it here:

thanks guys.....this laptop sounds really good (with the HDMI and switchable graphic feature)....although it will cost almost as much as the T400 I configured....I am having this second thought of canceling T400 already since they can't charge my international card...and I am waiting for me sales rep to call back to discuss the problem
-
You already have one Stewie? Care to share some experiences? I never buy anything w/o reading copious reviews, but the price, specs, and manufacturer of the u330 made me jump (plus I'm still using a 600E and I can't stands it no more). There's precious little on the net about this model yet.
Thanks! -
^^He doesn't, the pictures are from this review:

it will come with it IF it ever comes...
-
I just took the pictures from the review like Dreamer stated.
-
Is it hot switchable? (or is a reboot required?)
-
It doesn't require restart, it's the same technology used in the ThinkPads.
Also, it's explained in the review that you just need to click a few times and it's "restart-free"...

Btw, have you seen this about the Sony TZ?

Thanks Dreamer.
Yeah saw it. Thread has been started here:

Here is another U330 review. Does anyone know if Lenovo provides xp drivers for IdeaPads?

On paper, this laptop looks very good -- switchable graphics, DDR3, HDMI out. The only concern I have is the hinge. There are already reports of broken hinge with Ideapads on the Lenovo forum. It doesn't inspire any confidence for the long term.
-
anyone knows if the P8400 or P8600 will be offered for the U330 in NA?
-
It looks very good on paper, I agree. The heat concerns me though, 43C near the touchpad seems like an aweful lot.
-
Hmm, I looked and saw a couple of threads where people had the hinge area break on their Y510s. Hopefully the fact that the U models are made of magnesium/aluminum instead of ABS plastic like the Y models will make them resistant to these problems.
-
When would one use the higher graphics? For movies? Games?
-
well, graphics was enabled and full load on cpu for 2 hours straight
still rather hot but you never rest your hand on that touchpad, and well for me, i will almost never ever use the graphics and basically just browse, etc so it shouldnt be even near that when i use it
and i dont mind 4 hours and 1 minute, no 5.5, but i wonder what the circumstances for that battery program was. meaning what brightness, how often web was used, what programs opening (cuz im assuming the battery program has this stuff open, etc - not sure though) -
Like kickace stated, that temperature is after a certain amount of time in full load.
For HD movies, games, and other 3D rendering software. But if you're a gamer, the ATI 34XX series is not designed to handle very heavy games. -
I was browsing through the support pages on Lenovo's site a couple days back and ALL the models listed there have either the P8400 or P8600.. so.. probably?

Oh no, there is hinge trouble on ideapads? It seems just so good on paper, at a reasonably good price.
The review I posted earlier says that U330 body is made mainly of ABS plastic with a piano finish on top lid (page2).
May I know where is the info that U series is of magnesium/aluminim body? Is that unique to US region only?
-
Yeah I know, but even then it seems like too hot to me. Even 35 would seem hot to me.
But I'm not sure. What temperature can someone touch comfortably? -
1.33 inches?! I thought this laptop was supposed to be only 0.9 inches thick...
-
0.9-1.1 inches. No company includes the feet on the bottom of their notebooks in their official measurements.
-
i think its a little on the hot side too, but im hoping, since i will never use the graphics are and probably just browsing most of the time/typing, it will never be at full load so it shoudl be quite a bit lower.
i'm wondering, the temps NBR uses in their reviews for laptops - how long they've had it on load or is just with browsing/idling?
the computer is .9-1.1 like philflow said....its quite small
-
You have to take into account the processor used on the Chinese review is a p8600
the heat level of the p8600 at 105*C is 15*C higher than the p7350 at 90*c
Therefore methinks... that it should be cooler.

sounds more like 105*F than 105*c.....water would have boiled on that laptop surface then...
-
says centigrade on intel website... just quoting...
dont judge. -
i wish the U330s for order in the US could have the p8600 option. XD
-
I plan on upgrading mine to a P8600, and the Wifi Link to the 5300. I run Wireless-N at home and want to see the full benefit. admlam pointed out to me that the U330 does have three antennae and is upgradeable to the 5300. Heres a pic:
U330 comes with switchable graphics?
