What is the consensus on this laptop? Haven't read much about it or seen any reviews. It looks like a good replacement for my Asus V6VA, but I question the single core. How good would the screen be, given that I'm coming from an IPS panel?

Don't expect much from the screen. Nowadays 99% of notebook manufacturers use TN panels. There are a few decent RGBLED backlit TN panels but majority have poor color reproduction.
