Hello, i orderd my beloved T400 on 12th august 2008 and is was shipped by lenovo on the 21st august. From there UPS deliverd the notebook from china to New york on the 25th august. However since then i havent recieved my notebook (i live in New York). So i rang UPS and they said that they will treat the issue as "lost" and i will need to ring lenovo to reorder. I then re-orderd my notebook today after ringing lenovo, and the representitive said that he will file the old notebook as lost with UPS.

So i wanted to know from you guys, if this has happend to you before?
Also how long did your re-order take?
Do you think i should just cancel the order and go get a Dell notebook or Sony?

I need my notebook by the 19th september 2008, because i will be leaving the US and going to the UK for work.
    :(

    Sorry to hear that.

Either a VAIO or a Thinkpad will be great, both great quality.

If you need it by the 19th then of course you should buy something at a local shop. I don't think even Dell will have it in your hands in 11 days. But maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that.

I would say go local if you can. Is it possible to order hear and have it delivered to where you are going in the UK or would you have to pay the European price then?

I would have to pay the european price, which is a killer. Well i guess i can stick around with the reorder and if it doesnt come by then i can always say it was lost again etc and get the refund. Or i could make some stay at home to recieve it and i would then have to come to the US some time.

if your business in the UK is less than 30 days, just go into a besbuy and get yourself a laptop and then return it when you get back... :)

I bought a T61 last year, which made it to the UPS truck for delivery, then disappeared. "Lost" really means stolen.

In talking to UPS, I found out that Lenovo handles its own investigations of such matters. It took multiple phone calls to get anything done. In the end, it was only because a very helpful Lenovo employee saw my posts online that it got taken care of. (He called me on a Sunday to offer a refund or replacement; I took the former.)

Now that I finally bought a T400, I wondered what the box would look like--assuming it was the same as the one stolen off the UPS truck. Well, it said "Lenovo" on it; it said "ThinkPad" in 4-inch high letters; it had a big "Intel inside" sticker on it; and to top it off, it had a sticker with me entire configuration listed (I suppose to allow comparison shopping by thieves). It might as well have said "steal me." Why they don't ship laptops in a plain box, I don't understand.

eelton, lolll, thats hilarious, that realy does mean "steal me". Lenovo are amazingly stupid for packaging it like that.

Max PL, not sure if i will be back in time, a good idea tho.... I might as well just wait for the replcement to arrive and see how it goes (ill give it a few days and wait for their confirmation email of the new replacement, as told by the representitive).

thanks guys for all your replies, i very much appreciate it.

Yeah when I receive my T400 from UPS I really have a same feeling just like you. Lucky me mine was safe . It would be better if they pack them with plain boxes or even a pure black box.

I wish my T400 was lost on the truck.

I've had similar things happen with a TV from NewEgg (with UPS), and an SLR camera from Dell via DHS.

I was talking to the local police and pretty much this all goes unhandled by the companies, unless there's some obvious pattern (like one Driver looses 20 laptops in a week).

dopemann, if you are in NYC, head down to J&R. They carry ThinkPads including T400. I would avoid Best Buy as they only carry consumer grade computers and push their substandard geek squad and warranty services.

Press Lenovo to issue refund for the lost computer. Do a charge back through your CC company if Lenovo is not willing. Let Lenovo deal with UPS, as they are a big customer and have clout.
