Hello, I have another question regarding the UPS worldwide Expedited shipping offered by Lenovo.
I received a shipping confirmation email on 5/30/2011 and it seems that they offered me a tracking number on 5/31/2011. I originally selected the UPS ground shipping but it seems that it is the UPS worldwide expedited shipping instead..? Can someone clarify this for me?
When I first checked my tracking number yesterday through UPS, it showed that delivery estimate was 6/3/2011 (this Friday) but now since it updated this morning it doesnt show the estimated delivery but rather that my package departed 6/01/2011 at 9:36PM (guessing China's time).
My question is, does this shipment reflect a shipment directly to a Lenovo distribution center/hub and then the package will be shipped to me or is this package being shipped directly to my door step?
From googling like a mad man the last couple of days, it seems that almost everyone's order is shipped to Kentucky Louisville and then from there it'll be shipped to your state/city?? I've also read about the dreaded 2-3 days customs clearing from Kentucky Louisville or does that only concern towards Canadian customers?

Here is a snapshot of my delivery. It does say to Houston, TX (where I live) so does this mean that this package is directly shipped to my doorstep? Also the original estimated delivery date of 6/3/2011 (this Friday by the end of the day) still valid?
I would appreciate anyone who has gone through this UPS worldwide expedited experience that can give me any information on what to expect.

Relax there bud - no need to start a new thread. Read the shipping thread.
You're going to get your laptop.
Yes it is shipped directly to your house from China.
Yes expedited world shipping is normal even if you chose ground.
Yes it'll spend a day or two in KY for customs clearance if you live in the US. -
Sorry for the new thread, couldnt find the shipping thread around here. Could you direct me a link to it?
Anyway, so your saying that the original estimated delivery date of 6/3/2011 is not correct then? Because if it takes a day or two for it to clear through KY customs, there's no way that I can receive this laptop by Friday. -
I'm not convinced you bothered looking. The x220 ordering/shipping thread is about 4-5 threads down. -
-
i think you might get it ontime. China is around 10-11 hours behind eastern timezone BUT they are 1 day ahead. It's gonna goto AK, then prolly Louisville and since you live in a bigger city as long as it gets there by morning it should make it on a truck for delivery that day.
UPS worldwide expedited is quoted as being up to 3 day service on their website. Also I am not sure why I didnt get the clearing customs on my tracking as opposed to many others here whom got theres somewhat delayed by a day. Although I did pay the 10 bucks for expedieted shipping... so maybe thats it... -
My tracking just updated to AK Anchorage arrival scan 3:16pm. I noticed that Texas is a lot closer to AK than KY, will it still go directly to KY and then to Texas?

Worldport (UPS air hub) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its a safe bet they put a lot of thought into minimizing costs, direct paths for every package doesn't happen when you have a millions moving around at all times -
The weird thing is that there is no estimated delivery date anymore though. Does UPS post it anywhere on the tracking? -
"Since many of the jobs are part time and overnight, UPS has hired mostly college students by offering both nationwide tuition reimbursement and a special program called Metropolitan College, where University of Louisville and Jefferson Community and Technical College students who work part time overnight can receive 100% tuition reimbursement. Currently, over 75% of workers at Worldport are students."
Wow amazing. -
I also noticed in my tracking it saids its using World Ease. I googled it and came upon this:
inews | UPS WorldEase®: Multiple Shipments, One Customs Clearance
UPS Products & Services
UPS WorldEase®: Multiple Shipments, One Customs Clearance

All the more reason to ship with UPS!
Makes me feel a little better.
I'm just sooo eager to get this laptop as I've been reading/hearing about the Thinkpads for the last 2 months, I want it in my hands now.
Also, I'm hurting so bad from not having a laptop, literally glued to my desktop everytime that I want to go online. -
Sounds just like me... My shipping information says "UPS SCS" ( UPS Supply Chain Solutions), which also uses a bulk customs processing scheme... and that probably explains why I don't get a tracking number until after it passes customs.

I just hope my package made it to my city and the update just hasnt been updated yet..
It would be nice to see that its out for delivery tomorrow morning.
I'm not too worried about the delivery by my UPS guy because my UPS delivery guy lives a few blocks away from my house so when its a UPS delivery he always drops off my package last around 5:30-6:00pm before he heads home. LOL. -
Have a look at the level of detail we get in Canada...
-Me: "Where is my package now?"
-UPS rep: "Canada"
-Me: "...... Do you know when it should arrive?"
-UPS rep: "No sir. But we might find out tomorrow when that'll be..."
It could very well be at the Vancouver Airport depot right now (10km away), for all we know.

Mines been stuck like this all day yesterday and today..
At least you know yours has passed customs! -
Argh... just got a conclusive update on both fronts. While it is in Canada, it's 2300 miles away, and is expected to be delivered on Wednesday. What the hell... This basically means it's being put on a truck. I sure do wonder why they felt the need to send it to the other side of the country by plane, just to drive it back...
-
Your mileage may vary, but while Customs used to take two days, that isn't always the case. -
At least your getting updates on your tracking.. Its starting to irritate me that I'm getting no feedback for almost two days now.
-
I've called Lenovo/UPS a couple times in the last few days, and they apparently know nothing until it's posted on the site. Reassuring, isn't it? After receiving the news earlier, I wrote an email to Lenovo about their choice of bulk shipping method. Maybe more of us should do the same.

Thanks! Man I'm so excited about the T420. FINALLY get to see it in person, lol.
-
Wow, it came so early!!! I have it in hands opening now!
-
Wow I'm LOVING the keyboard. The screen so far looks great to me.
Edit: The screen looks great to me, the vertical viewing angle is not that great but if your staring at the screen directly head on, it looks very good and clean to me. I love it!!
I have to say, I love this T420. I am back, a thinkpad user! -
Honestly I dont know why everyone is complaining about the display, it looks excellent to me!
-
Good to know that you like your T420. I think the feeling of Keyboard, Display etc. could be subjective and relative. You satisfactory level depends on your expectations as well as how you are comparing it with. Also, usually it is those having issues have a stronger desire to post their comments (or requests for help) and so, the amount of comments could be statistically biased toward the negative side. Anyway, as long as you are happy with what you got, that will be good enough -
I'm very picky about displays and have exchanged more than 8 times (macbook pros) just to get a better display and I'm amazed at how great the display is on the Lenovos.
I wanted a display to be very clean/clear as well as being very easy on the eyes and its exactly that! The black level doesnt look bad either and to me for a laptop its quite good. Overall the keyboard quality, build quality and the display gets a 9/10 from me!
I forgot to mention the sound quality is very good for a 14" lappy too! I'm very satisfied with the purchase and so glad that I ordered. -
-
I also have to mention that the trackpad is one of the best I've ever used. I love it and its very accurate. I see why they made the trackpad bumpy, it makes tracking much better in my experience as to a smooth surface which doesnt respond as well.
I'm so glad that I ordered! I'm a thinkpad user for life! -
I found this in one of the threads here but I forgot which:
QUOTE
I strongly disliked the two finger scrolling on the trackpad (unreliable and did not always work) until someone showed me this program. I disabled all of the special multigesture features in Ultranav and downloaded this program. Two Finger Scroll makes it so that your touchpad always registers two finger scrolling. You can also assign a two finger tap as a right click just like how MBPs are set up. I highly recommend this program for people who like using both the TrackPoint and Trackpad on there Thinkpads.
UNQUOTE
I think I will try this two-finger-scorll to see how good it is
