Cool find, thanks for sharing! Especially cool is taking one of the new model #'s such as 2765T2U and looking at what accessories are compatible. Interesting to note that the AC adapters and docks show up, but none of the batteries - lends credence to the thoughts posted about new batteries coming out.

I'm curious though as to what leads you to believe that Configure-To-Order models won't be available for a while?

Wow, $350 for the Ultra-Base and DVD-/+RW on the X200

If these aren't configurable I'll be pretty disappointed.. The only models that have the webcam are the ones with the ultra-base. I'd rather get the basic model + webcam, and get my own external DVD drive online from ebay.

    Edit:

"Seems like the new machines will be offered in pre-configured settings (similar to the SL approach) for some time before we can customize it."

I just checked out the Lenovo Canada web site, and the SL notebooks are configurable.. Where do you live?

The reason to get the dock is if you want to hook up a monitor and all the peripherals, though I'd agree $350 seems a bit steep. You'll probably be able to get it elsewhere for less.

The technology formerly known as "Intel Turbo Memory" (actually, Robson is their codename for it). afaik its usefulness is still severely in doubt.

The X-series tab mentions the X300 will "transition to Monteniva in CY3Q08" but makes no mention of their model numbers... just the X61 :(

Wow... if these prices check out, $1199 for the basic X200 is a great price. You can easily buy a 7200rpm hard drive, a small external webcam, and an external DVD burner for a fraction of the $350+ they ask for those things.

If this is for real, I'm sold. It's really cheap, compared to other configs.

Sad that they won't offer a WXGA+ screen with integrated gfx for the T400s. I don't have any use for 3D gfx card and could really use the extra battery life an integrated card would give.

Well actually you shouldn't see any battery difference if you have discrete graphics because Centrino 2 introduces laptops with integrated + discrete graphics, and the discrete chips don't get used unless needed. So you might have to pay more, but you probably wouldn't see much difference in battery life.

    In the US, of course.

I'm just guessing, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm looking for a low end T400 model with an webcam. However those with webcam are listed in the higher price range so I guess Lenovo might start offering them in the pre-configured way similar to the SL offering here. Any other thoughts?

Those are pre-config, as soon as Lenovo launches them, it will be customizable.

How come none of the T400's are configured with an Intel P8600? I thought the new Montevina platform processors began with 8600, not 8400.

Also, if it just says 160 GB, does that mean it's 5400 rpm? Cause some say just 160 GB, while others say 160 GB (7200). I'm looking towards getting the X200 at the basic $1199 price since it has what I need in a laptop, but I don't think the hard drive is 7200 rpm. Is there a big difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm?

Could you please tell me how much does a 1GB DDR3 RAM cost? In other words, if I remove 1GB RAM from above configurations, how much money could I save?
    Thank you!

If you bothered to use google you'll find it that way. Here is the price for ddr3 memory on newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227348. The memory is a 2 gig stick, so I'm sure the 1 gig would be less.

The Montevina platform starts with a P8400 cpu @ 2.26 Ghz with 3 MB of L2 cache.

I wish the spreadsheet included which cell battery would be part of each configuration. I'm hoping the $1199 X200 has the 9-cell battery.

    Is that wishful thinking?

    base config + 7200rpm HD + 9-cell battery + (hopefully only 1 stick of 2GB DDR3) = FTW!

    ... I hope it customizable...

Unlikely. Do base models ever come with the extended batteries? You will definitely have to pay for that upgrade.

Base model is supposed to be the cheapest configuration, so they usually don't have upgrades includes. I'm thinking it's the slowest CPU, lowest capacity and slowest harddrive, smallest battery, no bluetooth, wireless B/G, 1GB RAM, no camera.

I'm just hoping it's configurable so a camera, bluetooth, battery and AGN card can be added.

The base model actually has some impressive specs according to the spreadsheet.

Since these are configurations, what are the chances we can make adjustments to them like upgrading battery before checkout?

What the T61 14W, T61p 15W. Is that referred to the wattage consumption on the processor only? Which wattage would be the new Montevina processors.

Shall we see cooler new Thinkpads with lower TDP, just like the old good Pentium M's ?

I see that both the T400 and T500 come with dual graphics cards built in. Will their be an option to only buy a T400 or T500 with just an integrated graphics card?

I have one burning question about the x200. In the other column the basic configuration $1199 states no, while this other configuration which states robson and wwan ready which costs $1599. Im just wonder if wwan ready means that the wwan modem is included and all you need is a subscription or if this means that the antenna for the wwan is there and you need to buy a separate modem yourself. I really need the antennas for the X200 and the review for the x200 states that there is an antenna....... anyways wondering if you guys can help out

    I believe it refers to the Widescreen models. 14W = 14.1 Wide, 15W = 15.4 Wide

Google the specs for the new processors. Generally speaking the new P series processors are 25 watt TDP, while the T series processors (not T series thinkpad) are 35 watt TDP. How that translates into how much cooler/hotter the new laptops are remains to be seen.

Got to remember, this is a spreadsheet someone found laying around on the Internet. Read the sheet and you will likely know as much about it as anyone else reading it. ;)

I hope the wlan option is just the base spec. Looks like almost all of them just come with the 5100 wireless chipset and not the 5300 chipset.

With the new hybrid graphics the replacement of the T61p should have the same battery life as the T61 replacement running "normal" Vista apps, right? I wonder where the hybrids switch between GPUs with how more stuff is doing 3d these days with Silverlight, WPF, and the rest since some of them may be able to use the extra graphics but most of the apps won't.

All of the new T/W models will use the 5100 wireless card? That sounds a little bit strange since the 5100 is supposed to be used in cheap laptops and its performance is said not as good as the 4965AGN card.
