Ok so here's the problem. My USB drive works fine in one of my computers but when I put it into my laptop it comes up saying "you need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it." So just to see if it would work I formatted it and replugged it in. Then it asked me to reformat it again. So then I went in device manager, the usb drive shows up, so I uninstalled the drivers hoping windows would reinstall them. I plugged it in again and it still told me I had to format it. Any help?

What kind of USB drive, size and name? Which format did you use to format the drive with, FAT, FAT32, NTFS?
Usually when you have formatted a drive with windows XP and then use it for Vista, Vista will give you that message. But...You can exit that message and still open the drive to see or use the contents that is stored on the drive. -
If I hit cancel then try to go into the drive I get this:
EDIT: I just tried two different external drives and I'm getting the same thing. -
Usually those drives come with the U3 backup software that shows as CD rom and storage device. I take it that was wiped off the drive? There is a process in removing that software, but you did say it works when plugged into your desktop.
Format the drive using NTFS and see what happens? Also, try opening the drive with administrators rights and see if that helps. -

What is the OS of the machine where the drive works?
