Are some of the USB slots on the TP more powerful than others? So as you know there are 3, 2 to the left and one to the right. When I plug in a portable USB drive sometimes it doesnt detect with the front left yet on the sole right slot there doesnt seem to be a problem. On the upper left slot I have a USB 3G modem plugged in all the time. Sharing resources is the reason when the USB drive goes to the bottome left? Also, when I look in device manager, I see USB controller and Enchanced USB controller. Recall salesman for the 3G modem suggesting which USB slot to plug it into since he said some of the slots are better than otehrs but I have thought anything about it.

If the drive is connected on startup its more consistent that there are no problems rather than hot swapping it in.

    Anyone else notice this?

Do you mean 1 vertical one to the left and 2 horizontal ones on the right? I've never really felt they were any different. If they're drastically different, you should have a talk with Lenovo

Meaning left and closest to you (rather than toward LCD) is weaker than the single one on the right? I just noticed takes longer for a USB drive to detect there. At least seems that way. You also experience this?

PS For a mouse with not power draw it should not matter.

Maybe the P is different. I only have a T61 (not P). There are 2 on the left and 1 on the right when facing the LCD. The manual shows they are made by different manufacturers souced by Lenovo. I didnt figure out who made which but one was Foxconn.

Hmm.. That's interesting. Why would Lenovo source 2 companies for USB ports for 1 laptop?

Is this 'delay' and 'lag' a personal judgement thing or did you do benchmarks?
