Hi, I recently bought the thinkpad t420 and I have been having a problem with the USB ports. When I put my laptop in sleep mode and then come out of it later, none of my USB ports work. The comp doesn't recognize any of my USB devices such as my external hard drive or mouse. Also if I try to shut down the computer after comin off sleep mode, it doesn't shut off...the shutting down screen stays on so I have to hold the power button in order to shut down the comp. Does anyone have a solution to this problem because it might have to do with my power settings but I am not sure. Thanx in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.

    This is what I did:

    • Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options (or "Power Management" in Search programs...)
    • Edit Plan Settings (next to your present power plan)
    • Change advanced power settings
    • USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Disabled
