Hey.
Just got it last night. USB ports are not working. The only thing I've done is run the thinkvantage updates and such, one of which included the intel chipset 6 support (or something named like that).
i did not notice them not working prior to this.
any idea what to do?

Have you tried Windows update? I don't know if they have any fixes particular to USB problems but it's worth a shot.

downloaded windows updates also.
i let it sleep, but not hibernate.
i have since rebooted after discovering the problem.
no fix yet. -
did u chked the USB drivers in the device manager and is thr any yellow bang sign..if yes then uninstall one of the driver and then restart the system.. and if not then try to download the file frm this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=733dd867-56a0-4956-b7fe-e85b688b7f86&DisplayLang=enbut before u installl the drivers make sure tht they are uninstalled frm the device manager and after unisatlling....install the driver and restart the system.../

there are yellow flags at the USB Root Hub items in Device Manager. However, above these six USB items, there are seven "Intel ICH8 Family USB Host Controller items that are displayed as normal/running.
I will try uninstalling the flagged items and restarting. They should install automatically when windows restarts, right? -

oh sorry! this is XP pro.

ok, they are working now.
i uninstalled the drivers from DM, as mentioned in previous post, and then restarted. upon reboot, they are working normally now.
