Ok so a lot of us just ordered T61's or T61p's that have integrated UWB and WUSB but, none of us know what Wireless USB devices are out there. And since it's pretty hard searching for Wirless USB devices that work over UWB and not standard wireless mice popping up when you type in "Wireless USB mouse", I figured we could start a thread about the WUSB devices if anyone found some on the internet they could post the link in here. I have only seen this belkin hub:

    http://www.belkin.com/pressroom/releases/uploads/12_04_06CFUSB_Hub.html

Anyone else seen any WUSB devices?

This technology is brand new, and I would not be surprised if you do not see devices for a little while.

Anyway, just a heads up that you're definitely a little ahead of the technology curve right now with WUSB and UWB.

I hope they'll offer a add in card for WUSB, I don't think my new T61 shipped with it.

If it is as good as the documentation says it'll be something bluetooth claimed it'll be when that first came out. Right now I'm kinda skeptical though, 2.4 ghz is pretty cramped right now and with all the devices that might be using wireless usb broadcasting everything would make it worse for people living in apartments or other places with people living close to each other.

I really don't remember the claims bluetooth made when it first came out but I believe they intended it to be more then it is right now with the real limited amount of devices that use it.

It's good seeing something to replace the stupid RF dongle though, with all wireless technologies out now we shouldn't need plug anything in our usb ports.

Also, I wonder if they are gonna have everything run on its own battery or off of ac power. I remember talk about power being sent wirelessly but I think thats even to far for WUSB.

I bet there'll be a wireless usb hub. aka you'll have a hub that runs on battery, and it'll serve as an adapter where you can plug in all your old usb stuff.

    dude.

you can't send power through wireless, it just doesn't make any sense. any of the advanced cold fusion weird physics would be too costly to justify that concept. Everything will have a battery in it, with it's own wusb antenna.

I remember reading about it someplace, I don't know any of the specifics but they said it was possible. Probably just some lab experiment someplace since it is hard to believe.

Well, you can currently charge your cell phone, MP3 players, and other small electronics wirelessly. Just place it on a charging pad to charge your device, but it is not connected with wired. It is just physically touching.
    http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/wildcharge/wireless-gadget-charging-makes-world-debut-july-9-268185.php

Someday you might be able power wireless over some distance. It seems kind of scary having electrical power flowing through the air, going across your body as you walk by. Then there will be cancer scare from it, but that's another story.

Oh, on the Bluetooth, I thought it would be much more widely used than it is now. Right now it is only mainly used for cell phone head sets and maybe in cars. Anyone here really use their laptop Bluetooth? Wish they would make more things with Bluetooth, such as printers. Transfer rate for Bluetooth is around 2 Mbps? Bluetooth keyboard has a longer range than RF keyboards? Which one is faster?

Actually they have the technology to charge batteries wirelessly!

I don't like the idea personally (cancer).

It's not widely done except with RFID chips but it's definitely possible (even if it's not practical at the moment).

    Check these links:

    Wireless energy transfer

    WiTricity

BTW, have you guys noticed that they removed Wireless USB from the T61 and T61p customization pages?

There seems to be different implementation of WUSB, such as:
    1. Certified WUSB ( http://www.usb.org/developers/wusb/)
    2. Freescale pulse WUSB method.
    and some others.

From information I found on the Belkin hub it didn't say that it is certified WUSB, but it seems for be using a Freescale solution...
On the other hand I believe that T61p WUSB are based on the certified WUSB, so IMHO it would make sense to double check and see if the Belkin hubs are compatible with the T61p, before I'd get one of those.

You can find some more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_USB

hmmm... you are right and also at the bottom of the page it says "Lenovo reserves the right to alter product offerings and specifications at any time without notice." - I wonder if that is the reason why the detailed status page disappeared. I hope they are not going though that path.

This is one of the reasons I purchased a T61p. They better clarify if they are COMPLETELY REMOVING WUSB from these systems because I will cancel my order and get something else (and that will ship in less than 6 weeks!).

Anyone ask Lenovo about this? Looks like I'm going to have to call this week.

The 15.4" T61 also has UWB like the T61p. The 14" T61 does not have UWB, however.

Check again pacmandelight. At the moment, Wireless USB does note show up in the 15.4 T61 or T61p customization pages. It was dropped a few days ago. I suspect it is either supply or technical issues.

I called a sales rep and he said the only reason they took it off the site was due to delays. He said it will be back up in 3-4 weeks.

The UWB must the real reason for the delay and not the 15.4' widescreen like the reps are saying. Funny how Lenovo have pull the configuation for it. Maybe they jumped the gun in offering wireless USB. :realmad:

I also spoke to a sale rep and he gave me a similar answer about the WUSB delays and reassured me that all T61p's will have WUSB. But what you were told doesn't make any sense, if Lenovo didn't drop the WUSB from the T61p, then how does dropping WUSB from the web site changes the anything - The T61p will be delayed anyway.

And also, if they are dropping things from the site because of delays, then why didn't they the WUXGA and the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M? :D

Ok, I might have been too fast in making that call... What would probably make sense, is that Lenovo didn't wanted customers to see the delay in their system shipping because of the WUSB and asking them to drop it from their system, in order to expedite order.

When I ordered my 15.4" T61, I did not even know I was getting UWB as it did not show up in the configuration page (until recently but there is only 1 choice). I am patiently awaiting my delay email.

I just checked and I can't find any mention of UWB or wireless USB in Lenovo's pages about the T61p. Did they pull this information down or was it never there?

I ordered my T61 on 31/07 and it "will" come with the WUSB, it should show something like the following on the order page:
    SBB THINKPAD WIRELESS USB ADPT

...that is if I ever live long enough until the delivery...
