give a try, I installed ubuntu 10.04 using partition with no trouble to all, it was very easy. with T410 you should be able to run compiz fusion with no trouble.

by the way, why not wait til tomorrow for Ubuntu 10.10 to come out?

I have ubuntu 10.04 installed on my T410. It works just fine, most everything works out of the box. Even adjusting screen brightness.
    @warakawa, that's a matter of opinion. I personally think it's just a gimmick (I've tested it before).

works on x200t with 4500mhd but very lagging with some effects such as the fire effect. The more effects you want, the better gpu you'll need. For example if I need two monitors, then I'll have to turn off all the effects.

Don't you have dedicated gpu on your T410?

I didn't chose a Nvidia card when I bought it. I didn't think it was necessary at the the time

It's still not necessary, don't worry. The T410 is a fine machine and it's integrated graphics aren't bad. I remember running compiz fusion on a core 2 duo system with intel x3100 (read: old) graphics and it ran just fine though I don't remember the exact settings I used.
Arrandale's graphics are a huge step up compared to the old ones, so I wouldn't worry.

I am considering upgrading to the T-series with Nvidia in order to run compiz more effectively.

However you still able to run compiz cube and other cool effects with intel gpu, just tone it done a bit, eg. if you are running the fire effects when closing an application, decrease the amount of fire particles and the size of the particles, you should be fine. Compiz configuration gives ridiculous amount of customization so you can adjust to your need and your laptops capabilities.

Does 10.10 have an Exchange Server 2010 client that actually works? Every test of Evolution I've ever tried failed with our company email servers.

I dualboot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I have two problems:

1)I'm unable to change my screen brightness. Seems to be problem with Unbutu and it's nvidia support. It's a known problem and a bug report has already been filed.

    2) I find that the track pad doesn't feel as good as when I'm using Windows. Furthermore I am unable to find a program that allows to me to set the sensitivity of the track point and track pad separately. Also I don't have any multitouch capabilities with it.

you'd probably be better off asking these questions in Ubuntuforums.org, there are many thinkpad users on that forum.

You'll want to install gpointing-device-settings. It should be available in the standard repos.

I have it already but for some reason I don't have any sensitivity option for the track point.

    This is what I see:

Update, I noticed that on synaptic they have the old version of gpointing so now I'm trying to install the version 1.5.1 But when I try to compile the code I get this error:

checking for GNOME_SETTINGS_DAEMON... configure: error: Package requirements (gnome-settings-daemon >= 2.28.0) were not met:

    No package 'gnome-settings-daemon' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GNOME_SETTINGS_DAEMON_CFLAGS
and GNOME_SETTINGS_DAEMON_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

But the version that I have is 2.30.1.

Check out thinkwiki, which focuses on thinkpads & linux, an excellent resource, highly recommended.

I found many solutions there when setting up my old X21 with Ubuntu a few years back.
