    Hello everyone,

I'm the owner of a Thinkpad R61. I understand that the UltraNav pointing stick allows for scrolling when the middle button is pressed and the red trackpoint is moved up/down.

However, using the drivers, it is also possible to emulate a middle button mouse click just like that of a normal 3 button scroll mouse (by setting smooth scroll). This allows the user to "scroll" in the same way a mouse does (by clicking the middle button and moving the mouse). I dont particularly like this method of scrolling, as I much prefer the regular scroll with holding middle button then moving red trackpoint

Is there any way to achieved the MIDDLE MOUSE CLICK (for use in opening/closing tabs in firefox) AND get the STANDARD SCROLL function?

    Thanks everyone

I'm not sure I fully understand what you want to achieve here, but you can customize the way Firefox interprets the third button action. Google "about:config" and "firefox" and you should be able to find the documentation on customizing Firefox features. You may also wish to search the mozilla.org site for info. It's all about:config!

Start > Control Panel > Mouse > UltraNav tab > Trackpoint settings... > Choose scrolling or magnifying glass function settings... > set scrolling type to smooth.

yes i know this method, but this doesn't allow ultranav scrolling like the standard way

by standard i mean the standard feature of holding the middle button then moving the red trackpoint and having the cursor not move and only scroll.

using "smoothscrolling" only allows the mouse type of scrolling with the middle click followed by arrows in any direction

what i AM trying to find is a way to allow the standard scrolling when holding the center button and the regular middle click when the center button is clicked and released

Oh I'm sorry, I read your original post wrong. I know exactly what you are trying to do. You want the default scrolling feature as well as middle click links to open new tabs. I tried to this in IE but have no luck. Overtime though, it does help since you can click and scroll anywhere on the page and not have to worry about accidently clicking on a link. As for opening new tabs, I just got used to holding down ctrl then clicking on a link to open a new tab. Hopefully someone will post a solution.

Start > Control Panel > Mouse > UltraNav tab > Trackpoint settings... > Choose scrolling or magnifying glass function settings... > set scrolling type to standard.

I should also note that it works for IE, not sure about firefox though. I don't know why it shouldn't.

I almost never use a mouse, so I'm not really sure what the original poster is trying to replicate. BUT, if the issue involves firefox and tabs, I highly recommend a firefox add-on called Tab Mix Plus:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122

It allows for a lot of customization of tab opening, including some middle click options. Hope that helps.
