When I buy an X220 tablet, should I get the Ultrabase+DVD Writer, or just save some money and get a USB DVD writer?

What are the other advantages of the Ultrabase?

Can the DVD Writer that fits in the Ultrabase be used standalone with another machine?

    Thanks.

Ultrabase is more or less a docking solution.

if you the ultrabase only for the drive support, then just get a usb optical drive.

If however you need a docking system support with an integrated optical drive, then the ultrabase should be something you could consider.
