I can't find anywhere an explanation of in what way the "Ultrabay Enhanced" (in the T510) is "enhanced" as compared to the Ultrabay Slim in the T410s. Is there any device not available in the "slim" form factor?

My primary uses are a second hard drive and a second battery, and I believe both of those are equally available in "Ultrabay Enhanced" and "Ultrabay Slim". I also can't find any other device available in one but not the other (notwithstanding that the Enhanced is larger).

    Am I missing anything?

the new ultrabay enhanced slot in the T410, T510 and W510 won't be able to support the ultrabay battery due to the removal of the battery connector in those slots as according to Matt Kohut from Lenovo.

The ultrabay slim is a 9.5 mm thick device, while the ultrabay enhanced is the 12.7 mm device, you can use the former in the latter bay, but not vice versa.

Ultrabay slim got more official device support than the ultrabay enhanced variant. Also to remember the new device is use a serial ATA connection, while the pre T400, T500, W500, X200 laptop use a PATA connection. So don't get these devices mixed up.

I see. So "enhanced" doesn't mean better than "slim" it would seem.

Is there any reason I couldn't put a 2.5" 500GB 7200RPM hard drive in the Ultrabay Slim port on the T410s (with the adapter)? I know the main hard drive in the "S" model is a 1.8", but I assume the Ultrabay Slim is the same size as any other Ultrabay Slim?

as long as the hdd drive is 9.5 mm thick then you can use it in your ultrabay slim slot in the T400s or T410s slot, this is also true for the ultrabay enhanced slot.

This is a huge problem for me. You got a link for this?

I ordered my W510 via the sales number. I also ordered the Ultrabay battery(57Y4536) which just arrived yesterday. Rep selected it for me and said it would work. Thing has a manufactured date of 1/10/2010.

I also got the SATA ultrabay adapter (43N3412) and 6-cell battery (51J0499).

Speaking of batteries, the T410, T510, and W510 (not the T410s) will feature an optional bottom “bump” battery allowing up to 22 hours of battery life when used with the 9 cell battery. In trade, I’m told that your Ultrabay batteries will no longer work though on these machines. (They WILL work on the T410s though).

I've got a request into oco1 to look inside his T410.
