So, I purchased an SATA Hard Drive adapter for my Thinkpad T61 and then I purchased a 250GB WD SATA Scorpio hard drive. I installed the hard drive into the adapter and plugged it into the ultrabay drive. The computer recognizes it and says that the device is ready to use, but when I go to My Computer, there is no new hard drive there. Do I have to install it manually or did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

Probably there are no partitions created on your hard drive - it is just empty. You must create a partition on it in order for you to see it in My Computer/Computer and be able to copy files into it.

Open up computer management (I am assuming you are using either Windows XP or Vista): Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management. Under Vista you can just type in computer management in the start menu and it should find it.

Here look for Disk management, it should be under Storage. When you select this, you will see all drives connected to your computer, and you should also see (on the bottom half of the screen) your new hard drive. There will be no partitions on it - it will show up as Unallocated. Right click here to create a new partition, for example an NTFS partition with quick format that uses the entire unallocated space.

You should however read more about creating partitions if you have never done it before. I am sure you can find something even here in the forums or on the internet, for example here:

    Hope this helps!
