    Hello all,

I just received the UltraBay battery for my z61m yesterday. I've read on here before that the laptop is set up to drain the ultrabay battery first, before using the main system battery thereby causing the ultrabay battery to cycle more and lose its capacity prematurely.

Does anyone know if this is true or not? Does anybody have experience with the Ultrabay battery and would be able to offer advice on how to maximize its lifespan? Thanks in advance!

That is true. The ultrabay battery will discharge first, many people have had issues with the batteries losing capacity rather quickly due to the 100% discharge rate. One solution is to eject the battery when there is still some life left in it. Lenovo has been pretty good with replacing them, at least so far.

    Check this out.

There are other threads, I just searched under ultrabay battery capacity.

Unfortunately it seems like the ultrabay is always drained first, and there's no option to change that. If you want it to drain the regular battery instead of the ultrabay, though, you could always just take the ultrabay out.

Edit: seems like vespoli beat me to it. so, i agree.

Thanks for the replies. vespoli, I read the thread you linked to and it looks like everyone is having the same problem. Hopefully Lenovo can design a software to automatically stop discharge of the Ultrabay battery before a full cycle, but for now I guess I should watch and remove. Thanks again.
