I wouldn't get it personally. There's always more fish in the sea.If you ever have misgivings about a seller or purchase, I always stay away. Less headaches in the long run.
You can go through Lenovo but you will spend quite a bit. I might suggest an external one if you really want blu-ray.![]()

Yeah ant really drop all that money by going through lenovo. Ughh I don't know what to do. The seller seems to be a a trusty one I checked out his page. De you notice same product but different pictures for the T400, T500?
-
There are Blu-ray drives for the T510, but they're extremely hard to find and expensive. Just to add to what tc2007 said, the T510 uses a 12.7mm drive while the T400/T500 use a 9.5mm drive. If the drive works it, there will be a gap between the drive and the top of the bay. You might want to look at the Blu-ray drives for the R400/R500. They're 12.7mm drives like the T510. I'd bet they'll work, but I can't tell you for certain.

I had mentioned that I had bought the drive from same seller. Its a Blu-Ray and DVD Burner (It will also read those discs)
It only came with the disc. There was no software. I use Total Media Theater 3.0 for $75 from ArcSoft. You might get it cheaper if you look online.
The seller is good, nothing to worry about. The price is reasonable given how rare the item is.
I would buy it at that price again. -
What was the installation like? -
Thanks for posting this FAQ on how to replace the drive. It's actually quite easy but you have to excercise care in removing the face plate of the drive.
Also, the drive has a side plastic bracket that is screwed on to the drive casing. Two screws hold this side bracket. The Panasonic (Matsua BD-CMB UJ141AL) Bluray drive that I purchased had only one drilled hole. One screw is insufficient to hold the bracket. However, a piece of double sided tape worked beautifully.
My T510 recognizeD the drive and powers it down just like the OEM drive to reduce power consumption. Watched bluray movies using Power DVD and created the recovery DVDs using the newly installed drive. Definitely don't understand why Lenovo charges over $1k for this. Purchased it from Ebay for $100 and I've seen it on Newegg from $150-$200.

To expand the topic a little further, is there anything Blu-Ray in an UltraBay Slim for the previous generation of laptops - like the T61p?
I understand the connector in the older machines UltraBay Slim is not SATA, so is that a limiting factor due to transfer rates, etc? The nVidia graphics should be enough, I would think. A lot of us are still getting along just fine on 3 year or older machines, but might be willing to modernize our Thinkpads a bit if possible. TPF -
I noticed that for the ThinkPad W510, an outfit called mydvddrives.com shows both a Blu-Ray Reader and writer. Here's a link to the latter:
| IBM ThinkPad W510 BD RW Blu ray Drive Burner
I'm not sure if anyone has experience with the outfit, it doesn't come up on Resellerratings, so hard to know. -
If it were me, I'd try picking up a Panasonic UJ-240 via eBay for about $120 and seeing if I could swap the bezel from the old drive onto the new one. Lenovo used the UJ-240. I'd say there's a pretty good chance it would work, though I suppose there's always a chance it won't.

Interestingly, it's still $1,200 from Lenovo, while I've noticed that blu-ray burners (internal and external) across the board have been steadily decreasing in price.

Anyone knows if a drive with Lightscribe and Blu Ray would work on a T510?
