Guys, I want to remove the DVD-rom from W520 and place a HDD instead. Is it any caddy or product, where I can put the DVD-rom and plug-in via USB or something to the dock? It would be great if I mustn't buy another external DVD drive, when I have already have spare. Thanks

I have the ebay part that you linked to and use it with all connectors removed as my T410s ultrabay storage case ;-)

But this won't work for the W520 ultrabay, which is tall enough for 12.7mm drives. The ebay part can only accept 9.5mm ultrabay slim devices.

    Hello Volker !

Can you share more explanations ?
I just bought yesterday a used nice t410S and am in the process or installing a hard disk in ultrabay in place of the dvd ; and maybe get the dvd working in a dedicated case.

    Thank you.

What's the 'standard' height for an optical slim SATA drive? Are the optical drives in the Thinkpads that standard height? Are they using the standard slim SATA connector positions? If so, wouldn't any normal external bay for a slim SATA oprtical drive work?

12.7 mm is the height of the ultrabay enhanced drive, 9.5 mm is the height of the ultrabay slim drive.
