    Hello,

So I got my T400 last summer with a DVD mulit-burner. I had considered ordering the Blu-ray burner, but it was far to expensive at the time. Now, almost a year later I am wondering if there is anyway to get the Blu-ray drive as an upgrade. I looked in the Lenovo store, but it seems they only offer the Blu-ray drive for the R series (ie the ultrabay enhanced drive).

So what would I do if I wanted a blu-ray drive for my t400, wait for one to show up on ebay?

call lenovo... they sometimes sell stuff not offered on the site. I did notice a few days back that the Blu-ray burners are on backorder (will delay shipment of a configured machine by up to 4 weeks) so maybe they're just out of them for now and giving priority to new builds.

However, I still think they're way too expensive. Configuring one with a new T400 will set you back $560, so that's probably the low end of the price you'll pay if you buy separately. Better off buying an external burner IMO.

Lenovo bluray burner for the sata ultrabay slim is prohitively expensive, it probably would end up costing around the same as your laptop.

Just get an external solutions, like usb caddy and 5.25 inch blu ray.

That is not the correct part for the T400. The drive you linked is for the R400 or R500. It's too big height wise for your T400 as the T series use the super slim 9.5mm drives. You need the part number 42T2517. It's the Panasonic UJ-232. A quick search on Google Shopping and eBay says they're in the $350-400 range. They're refurbed, which means probably a 30-90 day warranty. They're not being offered on the Lenovo website right now. Last I saw they were about $1,100 on there. If you can find an auction on eBay you might get lucky. That's how I got mine. The market is very for these drives is very small.
