I recently purchased an Ultrabase for my X200 to use as a docking station for a multiple monitor/peripheral setup. The auction included two power adapters, one advertised as being for a car or plane. My total cost was around $100; not the cheapest I've seen one of these go for but I could have done worse.

The Ultrabase arrived today and much to my surprise the auto/air adapter wasn't a generic piece of junk but one of the 90W Ultraslim travel adapters, complete with dual charging heads and a USB port tip for charging an external device using the adapter itself.

I thought these things were supposed to be pretty pricey, so what gives? Does anyone here use one of these regularly? How well do they do, or are they some sort of pricey gimmick I pretty much got for free?

it isn't a gimmick if you travel alot and don't want your stylish ultraportable laptop bag to have a unseemly bulge on the outside. Also, if you use your laptop in your car, then these devices are really nifty, i am currently operating my laptop in the car using a 12 v to 240 converter.

Obviously some people may not all these features and to these people these accessories may seem to be an overpriced gimmick. You can obviously resell them, if you don't find a use for them.

Excellent. I actually missed having the ability to use my notebook in my car. I have a car adapter for the older 16V ThinkPads, but never got around to getting one for my newer rigs. I just found it strange that the seller would just throw in such an expensive adapter on top of an Ultrabase, practically for free.

This will be a good addition to my bag, but I wanted to make sure these weren't plagued with issues or other impracticalities. I'm currently using it and it seems to be charging my T500 and my phone just fine. Guess I made off like a bandit?

well i guess the seller just want to get rid of his unused stuffs, surely they are still people like that around.... i have got quite a few good bargains over the years, which seemed too good to be true.

That's definitely likely. I also scored a Dell 2001FP monitor on Craigslist today as well. I wasn't expecting to find any decent LCD panels around here, let alone a big, high-res 4:3 IPS. I guess I must have racked up some good karma somewhere. :D

I picked it as well as a 17" HP LCD for $150. Considering what it is I think I did pretty well. Everything works perfectly, and the X200 drives it very well with a DP to DVI adapter. Even got my printer to work through the 2001FP's USB hub; I was thinking this model was too old to have USB 2.0 but I guess I thought wrong. There's a couple of light marks on the panel itself but you can't even really see them; I'm extremely pleased with it.

If I can find a way to get my old IBM Model M to play nice with all this new equipment, I've got a mighty fine desk setup for my road warrior.
