I also got that problem when I was trying to install the beta driver. But after I did the clean install for my x61, everything is working great now. I installed the original x3100 driver first then installed the beta one with no problem. Also make sure you download the right verison for it cuz it has one for xp and one for vista. goold luck. Here is the discussion link for the x3100 drivers http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=148045

clean install means reformat the hard drive and install windows all over without the bloatware

I just wanted to add that using a lenovo recovery and selecting a custom install is not considered a clean install. In order to do a "real" clean install, you will have to use the anytime upgrade dvd or an actual vista dvd

A clean install implies formatting your HD and overwriting all existing data.

I had no trouble wiping out my factory Vista32 install and using the $5 anytime upgrade DVD to install Vista64. I later upgraded the X3100 driver using this file:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...ws Vista* Enterprise, 64-bit version&lang=eng

(The file itself should be winvista64_1534.zip)

My WEI was 3.0 before the upgrade, 3.4 after, so it seems to have made some difference.

Be sure to read all the clean install guides first, backup any important data to DVD.

does windows journal come default with vista or am i going to lose that program if i do a clean install? That concern is the only thing stopping me from following one of the clean install guides.

oh, i was asking if its possible to do it without doing a clean install. its quite time consuming to do a clean install. thanks for the reply!

btw, does the thinkvantage button work for you ? both before winxp loads and after winxp loads ?

The Thinkvantage Productivity Center has to be installed for the thinkvantage button to work.
