I had done a factory restore after using base administrator and installed NOD32 on it. It worked, or looked like it did. It also ran really fast. Great right? Well then I allowed the system to configure the Client Security Solution password and create the Private Security Disk partition or whatever. Well it just froze, I couldn't use task manager, I couldn't shut it down. So I powered down the computer. Now I don't know what has happened but it only boots up into recovery and restore, and when I try to restore a backup I had made, or even a factory backup it just fails part way through. If I look a system information in the Recovery and Restore, it lists all in the info but says for C: drive UNAVAILABLE.

Let me guess, is the drive trashed? Oh &&^&^(*&!!

Is there anything I can do aside from sending it for a return? Something I'm not thinking of?

It won't even give my diagnostic tools options like it normally would, it's really strange. All that from powering down after it failed to create a private disk?

    Any ideas?

Since the R&R utilities run off the HD, it sounds like the drive itself isnt damaged. It sounds more like the drive data was corrupted when it crashed, killing a partition. Since the R&R section is off on its own, it was probably saved from that, but you are still left with the other messed up part.

Run the HD scan from inside the BIOS (press f1 on the first screen right after you press the power button)

If the HD is bad, you can call Lenovo's tech support and they will send out a replacement drive, with recovery discs. More than likely this is a software problem, but will probably need a full reformat/repartition to correct. You will need recovery discs for this, and if you dont have them may have to get them from Lenovo directly.

I'm not a Lenovo owner, but sounds to me like there may be a conflict between NOD and Client Security Solution. Is it possible for you to uninstall NOD to see if your machine will thaw out?

Pretty much the same thing happened to me while trying to reinstall Vista. Called Lenovo/IBM Tech and they are shipping out a new HD and Recovery discs to me for free. Will keep you updated.

Thanks for all the replies. Well at the moment Lenovo tech has me running the HD diagonistic, lets see if the drive is toast or not. If it is and they need to send a new drive to me, how easy is that to install for someone who is not used to opening up their machines? Or will I then need to take it to a tech store nearby and have them swap them out?
