    Hello,
I'm starting Uni in Fall and one of the requirements of my program is, you guessed it, a laptop. I want an ibm with 1.5gig of ram, 60GB @ 5400 atleast, 15" screen, 64MB x300 or the 9600 card, bluetooth, Wi-Fi lan, centrino-m 755 or higher, cdrw/dvd combo or dvd drive. Any suggestions? The ones i looked at are around $2800 canadian but is there a way i can get them for lower. I know Apple has this education thing where they reduce the prices if your a confirmed higher education student. Does IBM canada does something similar? If so, i can't seem to find it on their site.... can anyone help?
    Thanks

You want a T42 or T43. IBM does offer student discounts, though I'm not sure how it works in CA. You might check with IBM and your school to see if they know anything.

After much searching... i did come to 2 models i really liked.
    1) ThinkPad T43 Model number: 266872U and the
    2) ThinkPad T43 model number: 266895U.

They are almost exactly the same thing but here are the differences:
    1) is priced at 2999 canadian and 2) is priced at 2839 canadian
    1) DVD Recordable and 2) CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo
    1) has the Intel Centrino Mobile as the core technology and 2) does not
    1) has 14.1" screen and 2) has 15.0" screen

Both have the 64MB ATI Mobility RADEON x300. So which one would people recommend? ALso, i wanted to know, is it better to have the x300 or the 9600 Graphics card? I read the other treads and from what i understand, the x300 is comparable to the 9200 but just wanna clarify.
    Thaanks

The 9600 would perform better than the X300, you're right that the x300 is about equivalent to the 9200. I'd recommend the #1 laptop. I'm a fan of the 14.1" screen because it means lighter weight and more battery life -- which is more in the spirit of the T-series IMHO. I prefer SXGA on the 14.1" screen, not sure if you'd get that with this config or not.
