Is it unsafe to undock Thinkpad from UltraBase without first disconnecting it properly? And if yes, what can happen in worst case? I am asking because mine is refusing safe removal because of DVDRW, so I have to hibernate it.

if you are not using the ports and optical drive then it is okay to do it sometimes, but to prevent data loss it is recommended that you do the safe removal procedure first.

Hot docking is available on the newer thinkpads with the new docks, but due to legacy port support on older dock this feature is not enabled.

Is there is a disk in there? In don't have an optical drive in my ultrabase but it will complain if a USB port is in use and not undock.

And by in use I mean like my music is paused or playing (I have an external dac attached via usb).
