When I upgraded my last laptop to Windows 7 I noticed that when I plugged my headphones in my system would unmute. If I checked the audio properties I'd see two bars, one for my system speakers that would remain muted, and another for the headphones that would be on. This doesn't happen with my new X201, and I was wondering if there was a way to get this back?

I'm not sure if it will switch automatically like you are asking (I tried it under windows 7 and it doesn't) but the settings for separate volume control for headphone out and speakers out is under SmartAudio (as opposed to Sound) in the control panel. Maybe the removed that feature under win 7?

Windows 7 by default seperates main speakers from heaphones but the drivers have to support it. I notice whenever i do a clean install i have both options but after installing the driver from Lenovo (Conexant) it disappears. I use the default generic driver for my sound card as i don't need much more than that. In this case i can set different volumes as well so when i plug out my headphones the speakers don't go blasting. The hardware mute button kinda overides it all though i think.
