Sometimes i open my X220 after being closed for hours and it immediately displays my desktop, looks for the network connection and I'm ready to go. Other times, I open it from sleep and it starts up with a Lenovo black screen, progresses to "resuming Windows" screen and then to my desktop after about 30 seconds. I cannot predict when the computer will resume immediately to my desktop, or when it will resume with the longer process. Is there a way to control this behavior?

It's the difference between resuming from sleep (suspended to ram) vs hibernate (suspended to disk).
Your system will initially go into sleep and then eventually hibernate to conserve power after x minutes. You can change these options in your power plan options.

Ok, that's helpful, but there are multiple sleep options in Power Manager to choose from and it is not clear how they change things. For example, in "System Settings" there is something called CPU Deeper Sleep (enable or disable); in "Advanced Settings" there is something called Allow Hybrid Sleep (on or off); in "Idle Timers" there is Stop Hard Disk Rotation (time in minutes-or never).
How do these options affect sleep/wake up behavior?
Where can I find explanations of these settings?
Is there an existing thread that suggests optimum settings for various power plans, or a really good custom setting?
