I've been waiting for the next round of Pentium-M chips to come out so I can get the next generation T-series Thinkpads. It's been a while since they've updated the line from the T40 to the T41... does anyone have any idea how much longer I might have to wait? I'm sorely tempted to buy the T41p the next time they run an internet sale.

    Thanks

What do you want? Another .1GHz or an Intel b/g card?

I'm wondering the same thing, too.

I'm looking at getting the T41p, however with a AUD$4,899 price tag, I don't really want to be spending that sort of cash to have it dramatically drop in price in a month or two when a new processor comes out.

Actually the M series are getting a whole new core... I believe it's due out middle of the quarter.

The current M is the "Banias" production line, the new one is the "Dothan", and will be intel's first 90 nm chip... it will probably be about the same clock speed, but have a 2meg cache.

Was due out two months ago, it's obviouslly behind schedule.

Well, if you're holding out for Dothan, that's another problem entirely. It could be months before we see it in production models.

I wouldn't normally have been too concerned about it's release, although there is a resonably strong rumour presented on the front page of NotebookReview, than hints at Intel releasing the Dothan next month, and IBM following suit with the T42s the same month.

Now if only I had a crystal ball to tell me whether or not the rumour was true...

LOL - I know, I saw Andrew's post minutes after I made my last one. I have a really hard time believing that though...

I know, I'm quite sceptical, too. It'll end up being a case of "wait just another month and it'll come out", then the end of the year will pass and I still won't have bought anything.

On a side note, it's a pity IBM Australia don't have decent special offerings often...

I'm really tempted to purchase a T series as well, but I think I'm gonna hold out a while for the T42 / Dothan chip.

What is the best way to keep track of IBM's promotions? Is there an email list or site that I can rely on?
