    Hi folks,

I odered a new T400 from lenovo Canada few days ago. The base configuration has 2GB of RAM. I'll try to upgrdade it up to 4GB.
There are a lot of option on eBay/NewEgg.ca. So i have some questions:

    1) Does anybody has tried to upgrade before. I'm searching on Google and didn't found any tutorial.

    2) Does T400 anti water like T61?

    3) There are so many type and and so many brand. What is the best choice for me. DIMM have CAS 7 is better or worse than DIMM have CAS 9?

    4) What is better between eBay and NewEgg? eBayer usually sell a kit, not only 1 DIMM. Does buy a kit is better than 1 DIMM only. How about the compatibility between the old one and the new ones.

    5) I choose the default warranty (1 year). This is a international warranty or in Canada only?

    6) I'll ask later....

    Thanks all.

1.- You can find the hardware maintainence manual for the T400 here (you'll get a hard copy with your T400 when it arrives): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-39298.html

2.- If you mean the water drainage holes under the keyboard, yes, the T400 does have those. Don't rely on those too much though

3.- The one with CAS latency of 7 is better. Lower CAS latency basically means the RAM is faster, if you are comparing RAM of the same clock speed. It will make little difference, however, and you won't notice the difference. Pretty much all DDR3 SODIMMs now have a CAS latency of 7 though.

4.- If you want 4GB of RAM, you'll have 2 sticks of 2GB each. On Newegg, one 2GB stick of DDR3 RAM is ~$30.

    5.- It's only Canada, I believe.

Thanks. SO on T400, what component is CRU/FRU. Does upgrade RAM void the warranty?

No, you can replace the RAM, hard drive, keyboard, and quite a few other parts without voiding the warranty.

Pick one. They're not that different.

    most are good, like:

    gskill
    corsair
    crucial
    mushkin
    kingston
    ocz

just choose based on price, shouldn't be much of a difference in speed between all the brands (better timings or whatever, no real world difference).

I would buy from a trusted source, like Newegg. The price that you linked to is not cheaper than Newegg's price, it's actually even more expensive.
