OK. Intel says that the Core 2 Duo Processor T9500 is compatible with one of the same sockets the CD uses. Im not sure what socket i have. Here are my specs:

    Lenovo T60 2008-G3U
    Core duo t2500
    2GB ram

It's not. The best you can do is the T7600.

As ZaZ stated above, the best and most expensive is the T7600. T7200 would provide a better value. You can only use Socket M, 667 FSB Core 2 Duo.

What about the T7300? I would like to have a faster FSB. Would the T7600G work on this unit? It has an unlocked multiplier.
Im also going to upgrade my graphics card and the ram to the best i can find. I love this laptop too! the screen is great for its size and hasnt gotten hotter than 110 degrees so im willing to take the risk in putting the faster components in it.

No, the T60 uses a 945GM/PM chipset and only supports 667 FSB Core 2 Duos.

    Even T7x00 are 667 FSB
    Odd T7x00 are 800 FSB

GPUs cannot be upgraded readily. Your is likely soldered onto the motherboard. Going for integrated to discreet requires a different motherboard, not worth it.

Uhh...all the pictures I see the GPU is soldered onto the motherboard...

Only very few models of Lenovo ever used MXM for upgrading the GPU.

OK I just took it aprt and your right it looked like the same setup as my Dell Inspiron 5100.
Is there a mobo i can switch out with a better graphics card? and maybe a newer proc? i dont want to go buy a new laptop i want to stick with the high res screen and little bezel.

you could try a T61 14.1 inch standard screen resolution motherboard, but there are some modification required. However, the Nvidia GPU on the T61 do have some manufacturing defects, so i would suggest you don't try it.

Alternatively you can try a DIY vidock.

The Inspiron 5100 isn't even in the same ballpark as a ThinkPad T60. The 5100 is a Pentium 4 thick-as-a-brick notebook from 2003 (which suffered from overheating and motherboard issues), while the T60 is several generations newer in processor achitecture, chipset, etc. and is a reasonably svelte design. It's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

If you want a faster T60, your best bet is to stick with the processor upgrade others have already mentioned in this thread. I've upgraded a T60 from a Core Duo (T2500) to a Core 2 Duo (T7600) and it went quite well; it takes about 30-40 minutes, thermal compound, some precision screwdrivers, and the T60 hardware maintenance manual, downloadable from Lenovo's website.

Swapping out laptop mainboards can be difficult, even assuming there is one that is compatible (you can't just swap any board into any laptop), frustrating, and time-consuming. It can also be more expensive than it's worth. I'd stick with the processor upgrade.
