All of these warranties are upgrades on top of what you have their for if you purchase the 2 year you're only getting 1 more year

    2 yrs onsite $79.00
    3 yrs onsite $119.00
    4 yrs onsite $249.00

    4 yrs depot $99.00
    5 yrs depot $199.00

I got 4 yrs $99.00+tax IWS eligible

buying warranty for computers is the dumbest thing ever (computer related)

you just make sure it works when you buy it, that's all

To put it more gently, I would have suggested asking around here if you needed a warranty. If you went with on-site, I think that wouldn't have been very wise. But 99$ seems pretty good for the piece of mind that you get as well as service. My father, someone who is generally a smart buyer and researches his purchases, had me purchase the Dell protection for my laptop (this was 6.5 years ago). I was very happy that I had it when it had a bad drive and required some work after the regular warranty was up. (Computers were more expensive then, though).

I didn't go with onsite because it doesn't cover for IWS, but only in US.

I used repair services from IBM easyserv once. So, I'm kind of having some experiences to what i'm doing.

I ALWAYS buy the warranty WITH ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE PROTECTION. Its typically not that expensive. Unfortunately, people only realize this after it falls off the kitchen table or you spill a carafe of OJ into it at IHOP or your dog eats it, literally or you kid decides that your laptop is an ideal storage place for that extra apple sauce.... Well that's my .02 I hope it was funny, but it is not funny when it is your story, without protection.

For me, I take good care of my stuff. Yet, that won't be funny if it happen.

I am sure you are l33t and know everything about your laptop and can fix it. I happen to do that with all of my computers (and well build them). However, for a laptop it is just economical to have a warranty that is 10% of the costs to cover a couple years. Problem CAN arise and it easily pays for itself with any major issue. I personally don't pay for the accidental protection (though I definitely see its worth) because I don't have children or pets and I take care of my laptops.

I build my own desktops and repair my own notebooks. However, notebooks are definitely harder to fix than desktops. If you are bad with troubleshooting computers and are not a handy with tools, the warranty may be worth it. You might want to get accidental warranty for your notebook if you are a klutz.

If you are 1337, warranties are not for you.

When I bought my laptop, the 3 year onsite was included at no charge and the upgrade to 4 years was $0. I think the accidental damage protection was an additional $200 or so. I could not pass it up. I have 4 year of warranty and ADP.
