    My T61 has 1GB, 1 DIMM. The new x61s (yet to receive!) is 2GB, 2 DIMM (should have ordered 1GB 1 DIMM). I have bought memory upgrade 2GB x 2 (yet to receive!). I would like to know which of the following upgrading is better:

    a) 3GB in T61, 3GB in X61s (i.e. replace the 1GB in X61s by 2GB);

    b) 4GB in T61, 2GB in X61s (i.e. keep X61s intact, replace 1GB in T61);

    c) 2GB in T61, 4GB in X61s (i.e.take out the 1GB of X61s and put it in T61).

    Once I have the X61s, I will use the T61 at home and carry X61s out. No game playing on these laptops.

    Comments, suggestions welcome! :)

    Well, if you've got 32-bit OS on both systems, install 3GB on both.

    Yes I have 32-bit XP. Is it because 4GB is too much for it to recognize? This is good since I can then keep the 1GB to add to a future netbook if I buy one. :)

    A 32-bit OS won't address the full 4GB (about ~3GB). And, XP doesn't really need more than 2gig, unless you're running some memory intensive tasks.

    Thanks. Is there any con's by having extra memory that is almost never needed?

    No not really. Though, you can use the extra memory as a RAM disk, and use it to store the pagefile or (super-fast) cache for any app (like FF). Search in the H/W section. There was a lot of discussion about it recently.

    Thanks :) No clue whatsoever about how to use it as a RAM disk (how much do you expect the orignal poster of such a question to know? :rolleyes: ) Hmm, maybe I can sell it to you so you can give it some better use :D :D

    (btw I think found what you were referring to, the thread titled "Turning off the page file with 8GB" in the H/W forum?)
