    Hi,

I wanted to find out what processor can I upgrade my R61i with. The product id from Lenovo's website is:

    Product: ThinkPad R61i 7732-7BU

I have T5250 and want to upgrade to T7300 or T7500. Is it possible?

    Thanks for your help.

Don't see why it wouldn't work. They're both socket P. Have you looked at upgrading the hard drive? Offers better bang for the buck and won't void the warranty.

I am ok with the HD. My biggest issue is the boot time, over 5 mins. So my thought was to upgrade the processor to speed things up. The computer is out of warranty.

The hard drive is much more important for boot times than the CPU. You might want to look at what's turning on with Windows and slowing things down.

Holy cow, 5 minute boot time? Maybe you have an anti-virus that's scanning the entire hard drive every time you boot or there's just a ton of processes that want to startup upon boot. Check your msconfig to see how many processes are loading, read this article to find out more about speeding things up

A new processor won't change much in regards to boot up.

i ran a few of the Microsoft's profiling utilities to see what was starting up at bootup. The AV loads up very quickly. I am using mcafee, had the same issue using Norton. I am curious as to if Lenovo has software that may be causing slow bootup times? The boot scanner is disabled.

You might want to run PC-Doctor or Lenovo Toolbox if you've done your update to see if your hard drive is operating correctly. If you've got all the ThinkVantage running in the background, it can slow things down a bit. You may wish to pick and choose the ones you need.
