I just upgraded the hard drive on my Thinkpad R52 to a new HITACHI Travelstar 5K160 160GB drive. After installing and starting the machine, I was greeted with the same 'ERROR 2010' message that others here have received with their older Thinkpad models also. But it seems like everyone has just been able to ignore the error and go about business as usual, just ignoring the message. So I did the same and partitioned it up and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP into the main partition.
Everything was going fine for about a week, and then Windows started locking up. Then when I tried to reboot, Windows would no longer boot claiming some files were corrupted. So I pulled out my copy of Spinrite, and started analyzing the drive. It found all sorts of bad clusters on the drive. Some of which it could recover, and others that is just struggled on for hours.
Does anyone know (or think) that the laptop could have done something to corrupt this drive? Or did I just get unlucky and get a bad drive? I am within my 30-day exchange/return window at Newegg where I purchased it, but I am worried now that it may happen again with a new drive too.![]()

The 2010 error shouldn't corrupt your drive. I vote exchange it.
