I have an old T40 laptop which I use at home and the wireless performance has been disappointing. Does it has a internal card which can be replaced with a better one? Which is the best approach to this upgrade?

The T40 does indeed have an internal wireless card inside but since it uses the older PCI standard rather than the current PCI-Express there isn't much choice in which you can upgrade to i'm afraid. The best you can upgrade that machine to is the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Mini-PCI Adapter internally but I doubt it will be significantly different to the stock Centrino adaptors of that time.

Personally I be looking for a USB Wireless Adaptor solution if you're really keen on upgrading the T40 wireless capability.
