Does anyone know if its worth upgrading my motherboard to a faster one?

will upgrading fromthe p8400 to any other motherboard, andat what cost, prove worth the cost?

You mean upgrading the CPU right? the motherboard can't be upgraded as such, since laptop motherboard are all different between generations.

P8400 is fast enough, i have a T9400 CPU in my R500 and it doesn't run faster than my T60 with the T5600 CPU.

Unless you constantly do CPU intensive work, then there is no point in upgrading the CPU.

Do you constantly max out your CPU load? If not then don't worry about this trivial things.

But, if you have too much money laying around and don't know what do with it, just get a W510 and/or W701ds and max out these laptops. Or get a D20 Thinkstation with 2 x FX5800 Quadro + 32 gig of RDIMM, if you really desire high speed personal computing.

By far the best upgrade you can get is a nice SSD HD. Microcenter has the Intel 80GB G2 SSD of sale for 199$ :)

OP lives in Sydney Australia. No Microcenter in Australia.

Well I still recommend the 80GB SSD drive by Intel.

Yeah i think im done for now. windows experience says the only thinng thats low is graphics card, but i only watch movies through this, and i dont mind it
Im considering still getting an external hd aswell to borrow and send stuff comp to comp with my mates seeeing as u can get a 500gb for $100 or a 1tb for 150$ without external power atm, so yeah ill see how i go but yeah im good for a longtime now im sure thanks for all the help guys much appreciated.

    ONE QUERY.

I get the media cable unplugged on boot, wondering how to pull the bottomoff my laptop to clean it out and find that problem. I unscrewed all the screws but one near the battery internal, and couldnt get the plastic board completely off. And my SPACEBAR doesnt initiate when pressing it to the furthest sides. Ive noticed this for a while now andits pretty agitating hey, any way i can fix it? or improve it? is it worth talking to the RIGHT PEOPLE andgetting the free keyboard or whatever?

    cheers

    Nick

not quite sure what you are trying to say here. Media Cable?

If you got warranty, then call 131-426 press 1 and then 3 to initiate the warranty claim for a new keyboard. They will send it out through express courier (Toll Priority) overnight.

If you want to know how to take off the bottom casing (only do it if you don't have warranty), then follow this hardware manual.

Also, why did you try to take apart the laptop in the first place?

Get the ulatrabay hard drive tray and an Intel X25-M SSD. Move the 500GB to the tray, and boot off of the SSD. That is the best upgrade you can do.
