If I want to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8, can I buy just any memory chip and stick in there (Like I saw Kingston 4GB for $25 on Tiger--Lenova charges lots more than that to upgrade up front)???

Or you can just order the 4GB stick direct from Lenovo if you're worried about it. I just did this for my T520. If you configure the extra 4GB of RAM during build it's a $130 option. If you buy a 4GB stick separately under upgrades, it's $32. They charge a $100 premium to install it for you.

I paid $20 for my extra 4 GB of Kingston ValueRam. No problems whatsoever.

Going through the Lenovo site and searching for T420/T520 accessories shows a price of $40.99. Gorgonesh, do you have a cheaper way of buying from Lenovo than this?

I ordered it through the B&N Gold site where I configured my T520. The discount applied to the RAM as well.

at first check if you have only 1 4GB stick inside. If you already have 2x2GB sticks and only ports for RAM then you will have only 6 GB after buying 4 GB stick

    Use CPU-z for checking that
