I want to upgrade the ram in my t400. It has 2 gig stock. Want to buy a 4 gig stick now and then another one in a few months when I get more money.

I dont want to skimp though on quality. What is the best stick to buy. I have a 2764 model by the way. Thanks.

    1. Why do you need more than 4GB memory (ie. just get another 2GB stick)
    2. Memory quality isn't really a factor since most companies you buy from, get their memory from the same sources
    3. Memory timings and frequencies make no difference in any real life situation, just make sure it has a lifetime warranty

Unless there are particular programs you have in mind that need >4GB RAM, it'll be useless. A 4GB stick is much, much more expensive than a 2GB stick, as I'm sure you've realized. I would highly, highly recommend just adding another 2GB stick for a total of 4GB of RAM.

RAM "quality" is quite overrated. Generally, any brand of RAM with the same specs as your existing stick and with a lifetime warranty (the vast majority) will do just fine.

ok i have to check if i have 2 dimms or one in. if i have a 2 gig stick in then i guess ill just get another 2 gig stick.

if i have two 1 gig sticks in then ill either buy 2 new 2 gigs or one 4 gig.

also i went on corsair site since i have had good results with them and the thinkpad t400 is not in the memory finder.

    The T400 uses PC-8500 DDR3 1066MHz RAM, with timings of 7-7-7-20.

difference in price is great though. 50 for the first and 250 for the second but its only twice as large. will be going with the 2 gig stick, should be fine.
