    Hello,

I bought a T440s with the minimal 4 GB RAM configuration with the intention of upgrading it myself. I have a T430s which I thought used compatible RAM - 4 GB DDR3 1600, 1.5V. So I tried taking one of those RAM sticks out and installed it into the T440s, but the system does not recogize the RAM in BIOS or my OS.

So I figured there was some sort of weird incompatibility going on, and I used the NewEgg Memory Finder, which recommended this ADATA RAM:

    Newegg.com - ADATA 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model AD3S1600W4G11-S

I installed that RAM today, and again have the same behavior - that is, it's not detected at all. Is there something I need to set or tell the BIOS/UEFI to re-probe before a RAM upgrade will work? I'd like to minimize the number of times I have to re-open this case, so I'm going to put the machine aside for the remainder of today in the hopes I can get some confirmation either way from this community.

    Thanks,

    Scott

The T440s can´t use the same RAM as the T430s, as Haswell machines now use 1.35 V RAM instead of 1.5 V RAM.

Any brand should be fine. I would check reviews and ratings first, and double check the voltage is 1.35 before pulling the trigger. The 4gb module that they shipped me in my T440p was CAS 11, with timings of 11-11-28. I don't know what speed of RAM they soldered into the T440s. Perhaps someone could run CPU-Z to find out. It's not terribly important to match speeds, though. It will match the fastest speed both can operate at.
