So I lucked into a T440p for a mere $40 at Goodwill. For the most part, everything works. However, the screen seems to be a little wonky and it seems to be coming to the board for the screen itself. Now I definitely plan to replace the screen, but if I'm doing that, I might as well upgrade as well. So I need to know, is it as simple as swapping out the panel or would this require a new display cable as well?

I think panel only.
B140HAN01.3 is the one you want because it consumes less power compared to other revisions: http://www.panelook.com/B140HAN01.3_AUO_14.0_LCM_overview_23640.html
Be sure if you buy, contact seller first to make sure they're selling the exact panel and not a "compatible" one -
Thanks for that info. I would like to know though, is there a specific reason I shouldn't go with a compatible panel?
-
because you'll probably just get crap that's "compatible"
-
Well that makes sense. I thought maybe it was because the panel wouldn't work quite right. Thanks again!

Time for an update! I ordered the new panel and it arrived yesterday while I was at work. About 5 minutes of work and the screen was installed. What a huge difference too.

Did you get the 1.3 revision?
-
Yep. Scored it for right around US$60.00. I also tossed a brand new 1TB hard drive in there and upped the RAM to 8GB. With the addition of an SSD and replacing the T440 trackpad with one from a T450, I think my $40 thrift store laptop will become my main Windows portable. I may even drop an i7 in there at some point.

how nice of you to get such a great deal .-.
