Right now it has a T2300 (1.66 core duo) ... I think that's the model number ... anyway I'm looking at putting the T5250 from my Dell into my thinkpad. I can't go from a Socket M cpu to a Socket P cpu, right?
What are my upgrade options? I plan on unloading the T60 within the next year but I would like to get it spec'd out the best I can for now

Although socket M and P are physically the same(I think) they are not pin for pin compatible. So no if you have a socket M you have to stick with a socket M.
Look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors
And this http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core/Intel-Core Duo T2300 LF80539GF0282M (BX80539T2300).html
There are more than one packaging for the T2300 so you need to do your homework.
Good luck.
