If I buy Vista OS online and upgraded my T60, would I loose any thinkvantage software? Would I lose the use of the thinkvantage button all together, or is that all on the hard drive and would work on Vista too? Are all the drivers for Vista downloadable from lenova's support website? Zaz (Mr.Thinkpad) any advice?

If you do the upgrade it will still be there though some of it may not work properly as you are running a different OS. If you do a clean install, it's gone.

Just wonder if Lenovo offers free-upgrade to Vista like Sony?

Yes they do. I say get XP and wait until the other issues are sorted out.

If you go the upgrade route, get XP Pro, not Home.

I believe at this point there are currently all drivers needed for Vista on the lenovo website (there is a vista upgrade guide on the lenovo website as well).

What happens to the hidden partition upon clean install? Does Vistal setup give you the option to save that partition?

I think only way to delete the partition is in the bios. No os or any known program can detect the partition since it is so "hidden". I install vista on my x31 , though it is older, but all the drivers are updated well. IBM have alot of their new drivers that can run vista. The only one that doesn't fully work is the thinkvantage/accessibm button in vista.

Probably can recover back using the recovery option in the bios.

I disagree... If you go XP pro, you get Vista Business. but if you go Home, you get Vista Home Premium. Business lacks some features of Home Premium, and vice versa. It's not like before, where pro was just a beefed up home.

You miss Media Center, which isn't important from a Business point of view.

Mine is not allowed to upgrade to Vista, although hardware-wise is capable to run it. Only system purchased not late than November 2006 are eligible to receive Vista Xpress Upgrade.

So I won't have the thinkvantage button if I upgrade right now to Vista? I'd assume Lenovo would work on it and eventually get it running right? Does the fingerprint reader work? From what I've read, getting the upgrade will invalidate your old copy of XP, making the recovery partition useless right? So if I do upgrade to vista, I might as well delete the partition then...there's some place in bios to do that?
