I think it's time for an upgrade. I've had this T42 laptop for 5 years and it's been AMAZING. Therefore I want to stick with IBM (now Lenovo). I'm also addicted to the trackpoint and every time I use a friend's laptop that doesn't have one I feel like a cripple.
Anyway...I'm looking at the T400. I'm using this laptop mainly for business purposes, some web design. Doubtful that I'll do any gaming or video editing...if I want to do that I'll just get a desktop rig.
What's the deal with the new T410? Is it better? I'm having a hard time distinguishing between the models.
How is the widescreen? I'm a little nervous about that, but it looks like most laptops have the widescreen now anyway. My current laptop is 1024x768.
I was looking at the X series but I'm afraid the screen is going to be too small. It's hard to get a feel for these laptops because I can't really go to a store and check them out.
ALSO: Why can't I find the T400s on the Lenovo website?

I'd probably go with the T400 myself just because it's cheaper. One generation to the next usually isn't a large increase in performance and in my opinion there's no got to have it feature on the T410. You might want to go to the store and check out some smaller notebooks to see if you like the pixel density on a 12" WXGA notebook like the X200. 12" WXGA is 12" WXGA whether is a ThinkPad, Acer, Sony, HP, etc.
Oh yeah, welcome to NBR. Feel free to hang out and contribute where you can. -
It is rumored that the t400s and t410s will be back on sale at the beginning of March.
In the meantime, you can check them out at the Microsoft Store: http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Computers/category/410
Sometimes there are some pretty sweet deals there. They have an on and off deal where the x301 and t400s are under $800 each. -
Thanks, and thanks for the welcome. It's been good reading the posts here as it's giving me the knowledge I need to catch up on in order to make a good decision. I haven't been paying attention to computer technology like I used to, and of course I'm already way behind!
