I'm considering upgrading from the W500 to the W510. Has anyone here made this upgrade? I felt my W500 is technically more than adequate for the work I do but I also have $$ budgeted for a new system. Pls share your experience if you're made the switch. thanks

If you're happy with the W500, stay with it and skip the W510. Even my upgrade from a T61p wasn't that big a step (I did it mostly because I got sick of the hiss problem with my T61p).

Of course there are some features that are interesting, like quad-core, 4 RAM banks, better GPU (but not switchable!), USB3.0, better screen (but lower resolution!). But if you don't need (or like) to have either one, you should be fine with a W500.

I'm sure people would also suggest to invest in an SSD as nice upgrade if you want to improve the performance in a noticeable way.

the only reason why i wanted to upgrade is to take advantage of the 4 ram slots and the quad core.

What do you do on your notebook? As stated above, the only reason why you should buy a new model is if you are currently stressing your notebook beyond it's capability or you have money to blow.
