I have a T61 and i just bought a copy of windows 7 ultimate upgrade 32 bit...im running vista basic 32 bit right now. I want to install it but I'm not sure if it will turn my computer upside down or anything when i do. Any drivers that i'll need to download? any that are missing? or will this be a worry free run-the-upgrade and I'm set type of install?

sorry if that made no sense...

    thanks,
    Mark

I don't think you need to worry about anything, especially since you're coming from Vista 32 bit in the first place.

Go check if your drivers are available for all the devices you have as well. And just run the checking tool to see if you are ready to upgrade.

whatever you do, have at least one complete copy of all your own files on an external HDD or other media. best to have at least two entire copies, somewhere safe. never rely on things going right, even if they should and probably will.

I am with antskip on the paranoid backuping schemes :) It might feel redundant or silly to have 2 sets of backups, but it really isn't. Nothing worse than when needing to restore from a backup finding out it is corrupted as well

what do you mean about checking for the drivers...would they be new ones for windows 7? would they install the new ones in lenovo update or something like that once its installed?

Yep. Important to be aware that the Thinkadvantage update manager for Win7 is new - Version 4. But I would at least manually download some things first - even before you change OS's and place it with your other files, either on separate data partition or/and external copy areas -or else as soon as you have updated your new Win7 installation.

I suggest updating bios straight away, if not already done so.

Lenovo software for Win7 and T61 are at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...ind=0&operatingsystemind=466746&validate=true
(find T61 drivers and Win7 OS from that page if incorrect)

Make it easy for yourself, and follow lenardg's upgrade guide it is excellent!: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=428510
