    Hi all,
I recently ordered a SSD to complement my new x201s, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with keeping the ThinkPad tools while upgrading to a SSD. More specifically, I'm interested in keeping the Power Manager, et al. as well as the recovery tools, interruptable boot sequence, and Lenovo's registry changes. I'm not familiar with drive imaging tools, but to my understanding, Drive Image XML only copies drives, but not the configurations (?). If I copy my C:\ drive and my Q:\ drive onto my new SSD, will I have a machine identical to what's in my hands now? It's been recommended that I invest in a SSD on these forums, and I hope some of you can help me prepare for my transition to a SSD :) Thanks.

Honestly this is like the 5th topic about this. Every case isn't unique, just read the other ones.

Drive Imaging is convenient, it's what I did and it performs pretty well. Fresh install is preferred, and there also plenty of topics on it.

I've been reading the old threads, but I can't find any addressing the issue of copying the recovery partition. I know Lenovo offers a utility to create a factory image, but it won't partition your hard drive and re-create the recovery partition (ie. it will restore your C:\ drive, but it won't create+restore your Q:\ drive). My question is regarding preservation of this recovery partition.

I did it using a Rescue and Recovery CD. When I restored on the SSD the recovery partition was still there. I actually wish it weren't, but it doesn't take up enough space for me to worry about.

Oh really? That's fantastic news -- I read elsewhere that this was not the case with the x61, but perhaps things have changed since then. I also just checked -- it's possible to save the factory image to an external HDD instead of optical media. I'm excited for the SSD to arrive now :)
